Liz Kerjes

(she/her)


Liz Kersjes is an urban planner with a focus on affordable housing planning and policy. She works as a Policy and Research Specialist for the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Housing Finance Agency for the state of Illinois. Liz has a background in commercial real estate and construction, and her passion is envisioning and realizing a built environment that serves everyone. She is guided by the understanding that housing is a human right, and 


Liz is a Midwesterner who grew up in Ohio and has deep roots in Michigan. She has a Master of Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Florida International University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Michigan State University (go green!).


Fun Facts

  • Passionate about food - sourcing ingredients locally, cooking seasonally, and, most importantly, eating.
  • Loves to bike, and just completed her first century ride (100 miles) in 2023.
  • Adores live music and goes to as many live shows as possible (which, in Chicago, is a LOT), and plays mediocre folk fiddle through lessons at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
